How to List Internships on a Resume: Format and Examples
Organize one or several internships with accurate titles, dates, and contribution-focused bullets. Learn where coursework and part-time jobs fit around them.

List internships as experience with clear labels
Put a relevant internship in Experience or Relevant Experience. Include the employer, actual internship title, location or remote context when useful, and dates. The word Intern clarifies the role; removing it to sound more senior creates ambiguity.
Give the strongest internship enough detail to show what you delivered. You do not need a separate Internship section if it would fragment a short work history.
Example: a fictional reporting internship
Sample heading: “Reporting Intern — Example Retail Company | June–August 2026.” The company and work below are illustrative, not a real HiredFast customer outcome.
- Updated a weekly sales workbook using exports supplied by the reporting team and checked totals against the prior source files.
- Recorded missing store identifiers in an issue log and sent unresolved records to the analyst before the weekly report.
- Wrote a handoff note describing workbook tabs, refresh steps, and checks for the next intern.
Balance multiple internships and other experience
Use reverse chronological order within a section and let bullet space reflect relevance. A recent unrelated internship may need fewer bullets than earlier work directly connected to the opening. Keep enough detail that the timeline is still easy to understand.
Retain a part-time job if it demonstrates a useful skill not shown elsewhere or explains substantial experience. Remove duplicated class-project detail when the internship now provides stronger evidence. Education can stay near the top for a current student or recent graduate.
Describe supervision, projects, and confidential work
Separate a team’s output from your assigned contribution. “Supported the launch by checking product descriptions against approved copy” is clearer than claiming you launched the whole product. Mention independent ownership only when it was actually yours.
If details are confidential, describe the type of work and public tools without naming private clients or exposing internal data. Do not upload an employer’s workbook or code to a portfolio without permission. A sanitized description can stand on its own.

Quick questions
Can an unpaid internship go in Experience?
Yes. Describe the role accurately and focus on the work. Whether it was paid does not determine whether the experience is relevant.
Should I include a future internship?
If the offer is confirmed and you choose to include it, clearly label it as incoming with the future start date. Do not write bullets claiming work you have not performed.
